Ryan Christie has revealed how he’s been getting pelters from his teammates for his celebration at St Mirren.
It was the attacker’s first goal since returning from injury, as he nabbed the second in the recent 2-0 win in Paisley. He added to Timothy Weah’s goal to follow up the Hoops’ Rangers success with another three points.
Christie’s effort was a deflected strike that found the net late on. And he celebrated with a not unusual bow in front of the crowd. There didn’t look to be much wrong with it at the time, and the Hoops fans were jubilant.

But the forward has since been receiving stick for it from his team-mates. And, speaking in the Celtic View (Volume 54, Issue 37, page 11), Christie opened up on it.
“I’ve been getting a lot of stick for the celebration. I took a lot of stick for it after the game. All of my celebrations are completely off the cuff – whether they’re good, bad, or different.
“It’s just whatever comes to my head at that moment.
“It’s strange though, I’ve done that celebration before, and it was against St Mirren for Inverness. And it was also into that goal. It’s weird that it came back to me, because I definitely didn’t think of it at the time.”
Here’s hoping Christie gets to try out more before the end of the season
Christie’s goal return this term has meant that he’s had a fine chance to try out some of his celebration styles. He has 11 to his name this term – the most of any central midfielder currently at the club.
If he didn’t have his injury problems at various stages this term, Christie could’ve really made this a more comfortable campaign. But nevertheless, having the likes of he and Tom Rogic back will prove to be massive in the coming weeks.

Christie is becoming a player we’re starting to be able to rely on for the big occasion too. He bagged the Betfred Cup final winner against Aberdeen back in December after turning the semi-final against Hearts in our favour after his introduction. Later that month, he proved the only outfield Hoops player to perform well at Ibrox, outside of Callum McGregor.
He’s starting to grab games by the scruff of the neck and take responsibility. He no longer looks like a player that feels lucky to be at Parkhead. Christie knows his qualities, and that we can benefit massively from them.
Having him back for the run-in could prove vital for Neil Lennon. With 39 appearances to his name this term despite injury problems, it shows just how highly rated he is. Regardless of how he celebrates!
