Ryan Christie references his wayward Celtic shooting; gives derby nod to Soro and Turnbull

Ryan Christie reckons Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull are more than ready to face Rangers at Ibrox despite their lack of Celtic experience.

Christie has been on media duties this week in the wake of Wednesday’s excellent 3-0 win against Dundee United.

Both Soro and Turnbull found themselves on the scoresheet with strikes from distance.

That’s something Christie is capable of too. His goals against Aberdeen and Hearts in the Scottish Cup this season have been highlights.

However, the attacking midfielder is apparently well aware most of his shots are wayward!

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Ibrox, Christie told The Scotsman: “I would have been [proud of Soro’s goal]. Mine these days just fly into the stands so I’ll leave the shooting to him.

“They [Soro and Turnbull] are absolutely ready [for Ibrox], I don’t see why they wouldn’t be.

“They couldn’t be in a better run of form, are full of confidence. With David also getting his goal against United and scoring recently, and there is no better way to be going into such a big game.”

Christie has averaged 3.4 shots per game in the Scottish Premiership, the most of any player in the division apart from Odsonne Edouard (WhoScored).

However, he only has three league goals to show for it. That’s less than anyone else in the top ten shot takers per game in the top-flight.

While he has proven to be a man that can provide a big moment at a big time, his inaccurate long-distance shooting has become a real issue for some supporters. Especially when there are better options around him.

Hopefully, his self-awareness curbs those tendencies moving forward, even if he’s likely talking tongue-in-cheek to the media here. Soro has only scored two career goals after all!

As for Soro and Turnbull with regards to the derby, well I couldn’t agree more. Both are ready to do battle at Ibrox tomorrow.

Whether they come through the test with flying colours is another matter. However, they have shown better form than anyone else at Celtic recently and deserve their place.
