Celtic attacker Ryan Christie has suggested that he could be the answer to a problem that has plagued the club all season.
He wants to become the penalty taker for the Hoops. Celtic missed their fifth penalty of the season when Olivier Ntcham’s effort was saved in the 2-0 win over St Mirren. As a result, the win was in doubt until Christie scored.
Now Christie has thrown his hat into the ring to become Celtic’s penalty king.
“I’m happy”
“I’m happy to take penalties if called upon. To be fair, I’d have put money on Oli scoring against St Mirren, it’s actually a good save” he told the Daily Record.
“But there are plenty of the boys in the squad happy to step up and take a penalty.”
Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon should consider Christie’s suggestion. He has shown he can find the net on a regular basis this season.
No issue from the spot
Therefore, he would have no issue about taking a penalty kick.
Should the Hoops get a penalty against Livingston on Saturday, Christie should be in line to take it.
If he adds penalties to his repertoire Christie is capable of scoring 20 goals a season. He is already on 11 goals for this season.
Therefore, it would benefit all at the club if he started taking penalties. There is seemingly no regular penalty taker at the club. It is time for someone to take that role, and Christie is that player.
