Celtic duo Scott Robertson and Ryan Mullen have both been called up by Scotland under-19s coach Billy Stark ahead of friendlies later this month.

The Scots are set to face back-to-back friendly matches against the Czech Republic in Spain. Both of those matches will also come during the week of Celtic’s Europa League last-32 clash in Denmark vs Copenhagen. The second friendly will be on the same day.

However, neither man would be involved in that contest in any case. Both have been with the reserves all season as their development continues.

Robertson made his Celtic debut in Cluj back in December, and stood out too with his composure in the midfield and quick turning on the ball. He was unfortunate to be on the losing side that night.

A big chance ahead of a big March

As for Mullen, he’s been plying his trade as the Celtic reserves’ first-choice shot-stopper. He has UEFA Youth League experience to his name as well as a handful of Scotland under-19 caps too. A Celtic debut, however, has yet to come for him.

Both men will be desperate to impress ahead of a crucial March period with Scotland. A heroic 1-0 win over Germany back in October has meant that Scotland’s under-19s qualified for the Elite round of qualifiers next month.

The youngsters will face off against France, Russia, and Georgia as they look to book their place in the under-19 Euros this summer.

Both Mullen and Robertson are the only two Celtic representatives currently in the squad. Six others are from rivals Rangers, whilst an incredible nine of them are based down south.

Hopefully or own duo can impress and earn their spot in the next round of qualifiers. It’s an exciting time to be joining the under-19s, with plenty to play for and plenty of spotlight on them.

There is, however, some uncertainty about the time regarding the second friendly with the Czechs. The national team’s Twitter has stated that it’s still to be confirmed, with the first one taking place at 3pm on the 18th.
