Scoreless draw continues to be pushed as a good result for Copenhagen against Celtic

With Celtic getting ready to face Copenhagen tomorrow, several Danish representatives have now claimed that 0-0 would be a decent result for our rivals.

Copenhagen are at home tomorrow before heading to Celtic Park next week. Anything other than a win should be perceived as a negative for them. With Celtic only losing two games at Parkhead all season, it’s not a ground opposition teams will fancy getting a result at.

However, Marc Rieper has today been talking about the tie and stated that a 0-0 stalemate would be a good result for Copenhagen. He said that they’ll be happy if they can just keep Celtic out (Daily Record).

This comes after Copenhagen midfielder Zeca claimed that a 0-0 could prove to be a good result on the official club website.

Manager Stale Solbakken also spoke in comments published in the National claiming that he hopes his side can “stay alive” before the tie goes to Celtic Park. He believes that the club doesn’t definitely need to take a lead to Glasgow. and stated that a 0-0 leaves everything up for grabs in the second leg.

Lack of ambition difficult to ignore

This is pretty bizarre. Why on earth a scoreless draw at their own ground – a stadium they’ve been beaten in only once this season – would be a good result is odd. If they’re struggling to believe that they can definitely take a lead to Glasgow, what makes them think they can get the job done at Parkhead?

Whether it’s mind games or not remains to be seen. Rieper’s comments suggest that’s not the case though. It appears as though Copenhagen would genuinely be satisfied with holding us to a draw.

You can see the thinking to an extent. The away goal rule in these two-legged ties can be crucial – but they’re not the be-all and end-all. All it takes for Celtic to progress if we secure a draw in Denmark is a narrow win at our own stadium.

Considering the fact we’ve also put Cluj, Lazio, and Rennes to the sword at Parkhead, you would think Copenhagen would know the importance of taking an advantage to Glasgow.

Regardless, if they want to settle for a draw then fair play to them. Celtic won’t be doing likewise, and you can bet Neil Lennon will be going all out to take a win back to Scotland for next week’s second leg.
