It’s not the World Cup Scotland fans had dreamed of.
Despite the Scotland fans making the country proud over in the United States of America, the performances were utter garbage, and now the nation is looking for a new coach.
Steve Clarke resigned moments after Scotland’s World Cup exit was confirmed, with some calling for Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou to take the reins at Hampden.
Everyone saw the magic Postecoglou brought to Celtic during his two-year reign in Glasgow, as well as his entertaining stint in the English Premier League, which included lifting the Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur.
But it seems as though Postecoglou becoming Scotland coach is a complete non-starter.
Scott Allan told Open Goal that the Scotland head coach role ‘pays the same as the Aberdeen job’, so, from a financial perspective, the SFA only have so much rope to pull.
Ange Postecoglou as Scotland’s next manager. What do you think? 🤔
If not Ange, name your other options….🏴👇
Finances behind why Ange Postecoglou won’t become Scotland manager
Si Ferry: “Who would be your next guy?”
Allan: “This is the thing. The Scotland job probably pays what the Aberdeen job pays. Then people are throwing around your Ange Postecoglou’s and all of that.
“He isn’t going to take that because, ultimately, it pays the same as what the Aberdeen job pays.”
Ferry: “And they can’t break that?”
Allan: “They won’t. That’s not really a thing the SFA will do.”
Andy Halliday: “Well, that then leads to the standout candidate then, doesn’t it? John McGlynn for me. He is the only one I can think of who’s realistic. No chance of Moyes.”
Ferry: “Why is it that they can only pay a certain amount? How come other countries can go and get top managers? Pochettino, obviously, America.”
Allan: “I don’t know the reasons. I just know that it does pay the same as the Aberdeen job would pay, which does limit.”
Ferry: “Ange would be unbelievable if you could get him.”
Halliday: “There is just no chance.”

Domestic coaches who could become Scotland’s next manager
If Scotland can’t push the boat out and bring in a big name like Postecoglou, then the powers that be will probably go domestic.
The first man through the door will be the U21’s coach, Scot Gemmill.
You have even had former Celtic captain Scott Brown, who was recently the coach of Ayr United, getting a mention.
But perhaps, more realistically, Falkirk’s John McGlynn will come into the conversation, given the stellar job he has done with The Bairns, including a top six finish last term.
