Scott Bain has taken yet another swipe at Motherwell, and he’s spot on to do so as he labelled them “pathetic”.
Bain is clearly still reeling from THAT goal on Sunday. Motherwell refused to give Celtic the ball back after the Hoops kicked it out so Ryan Christie could receive treatment. The Steelmen profited from the confusion with a goal, and Celtic were furious.
Yesterday, Bain stated that Motherwell should be embarrassed by how they conducted himself. But today he’s revealed that he’s sick of hearing the same old excuse, and warned the Steelmen to not expect the ball back next time.

Speaking in the Daily Record, Bain was clearly still furious at the incident.
“If it was up to me? No. Not a chance (would they get the ball back). The amount of work we put into those games before with the clean sheets, the way we defended, and it’s gone out of the window for something that shouldn’t happen in football.
“For us to come in and them to say, ‘You won the game anyway,’ that’s just absolutely pathetic. “That’s not the point. It is done now. I was boiling on Sunday night. I was okay on Monday, well, I was until we started talking about it.
“It’s pretty embarrassing, pretty pathetic that they felt they had to try that to score a goal.”
Everyone seems to have forgotten Scott Bain
The idea that Celtic won the game 4-1 being used as an excuse is poor. The goal isn’t irrelevant as it affects the Hoops’ goal difference as well as Bain’s clean sheet record.
It will be interesting to see what happens in matches between these sides in the future. Celtic were determined to contest every ball after the incident. They didn’t want to allow Motherwell any free possession, and it showed.

There likely won’t be much fallout from this in the future though. When the sides meet again, you have to expect sportsmanship to return to the fore from both sides.
But Bain is clearly still furious at being told Celtic won the game anyway. He’s quite right too. Nobody has mentioned the fact he was looking to set records himself. Just because Celtic took the points, it’s wrong to say the goal is immaterial.
Regardless, it was a big three points, and Celtic no doubt enjoyed rubbing Motherwell’s noses in those third and fourth goals too.
