Scott Bain relishing Champions League challenge

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain says he and his teammates are full of confidence and relishing the start of another European campaign.

Neil Lennon’s men begin their Champions League quest against FK Sarajevo next Tuesday before hosting the Bosnian champions the following week.

The first leg will come just six weeks after Celtic secured a third successive treble by beating Hearts, and Bain thinks the short turnaround could have some benefit.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s good for us in terms of not losing a lot of fitness, so when we have a break, we can really just relax and not worry about anything. None of the boys or the staff are worried about burnout.

“There are always difficult games straight away and you’re playing unknown teams which obviously have no expectation from the Scottish public

“Every team you face is difficult and it’s always tricky to go away to these places and get results. We know it’s challenging but we’re definitely confident.”

It’s good to see Bain relishing the opportunity

It’s good to hear that Bain and the team are in good spirits. A lot has been made of various off the field incidents this summer but the truth is that Celtic have looked good in their opening pre-season matches.

Granted the opposition haven’t been great but there have still been good individual performances from players clearly keen to make their mark.

Bain will be no different. The 27-year-old is going into the new season as Celtic’s first choice and that’s a pressure he’s never had to deal with before. He’s also likely to have a pretty new-look defence in front of him over the opening matches so that could be a challenge.

If he can bring his confidence on to the pitch with him then Celtic will be in good shape to get past the Bosnians.
