Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain signed a new contract with the Hoops on Thursday, which will keep him at the club until 2023. Now that the player’s future has been sorted, Bain has revealed what his goals are – and that is to get fit and win his place back in the first-team.

“It lets me focus back on getting fit, back on getting in the team. It’s something we’ve spoken about for a while, I’m glad to finally get it done” he said, in an interview appearing on Celtic’s Twitter account.

Bain must be pleased to get his future sorted. He is a player that has almost been forgotten about since he suffered a thumb injury at the start of the season.

Since then, Fraser Forster has returned to the club, and has taken over as the Hoops number one. However, it is good to see that Bain still has the goal to be Celtic’s number one goalkeeper. It should not be forgotten about that he played a key role in helping the Hoops win the treble last season.

For the moment, he is a squad player. That could change, especially if Forster suffers an injury. There is no doubt that Bain could be the Celtic first choice goalkeeper again in the near future. There is no guarantee that Fraser Forster is going to be at Celtic Park next season. His loan deal runs out at the end of this season.

That could be one of the main reasons that Celtic decided to extend Bain’s deal. That ensures that should Forster move on at the end of the season, Bain can be counted on as he has done well in the past for the Hoops. Only time will tell if that happens, but Bain can look ahead to the future with some confidence.
