Scott Bain has shown over the past six months why he deserves to be Celtic’s number one goalkeeper. The 27-year-old was thrust into the spotlight in January when former Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers made him his top keeper instead of Craig Gordon.
The former number one hasn’t been seen since with Bain playing every minute of Celtic’s matches in 2019 thus far.

How do their records compare?
Celtic played a total of 63 competitive matches last season. Bain and Gordon split the workload evenly with Gordon playing 32 and Bain 31. However, that’s where the similarities in their records end.

Gordon conceded 27 goals in his matches in nets, one roughly every 106 minutes. Bain conceded just 11 in his matches, that’s one roughly every 254 minutes.
Bain has proven himself
The new Scotland keeper has shown why Brendan Rodgers was right to put him between the sticks. Bain kept 22 clean sheets in his 31 matches – a superb return.

He may not be as fashionable or as highly rated as some of his predecessors but he’s proven himself to be of sufficient quality.
There are many positions that we need to look to strengthen this summer. Our goalkeeper isn’t one.
