Scott Bain still hopeful of Celtic chance

Out of favour Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain says he’s still hopeful for the future due to the fast changing nature of football.

The 27-year-old shot stopper penned a new four-year deal at the club last week despite not featuring since the middle of August. Bain has missed 17 successive matches since the shock Champions League defeat to Cluj – where he let four goals past him.

But despite that period of absence, in which Fraser Forster has been signed, Bain is remaining positive for what’s to come.

“I love it here, it’s a huge club with great players and great staff,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s a great place to come and train every day. I’m going to be here for four years and I need to be patient and see what happens.

“Football changes quickly and you can see that in every aspect of it. It’s a case of performances. All I can do is try and play the way the manager wants me to play.

“It’s great to train with guys like Fraser, Craigy and Woodsy every day and take what you can from them. They’re top standard and to learn from them and improve is great. This is a fantastic place to come and work every day.”

It’s great to hear Bain still speaking so positively about the club and his future. Despite being dethroned by Forster in recent months, it still has been a staggering rise for him from Dundee back-up to an important member of the Celtic squad.

That’s probably what’s keeping him in such a good frame of mind despite recent disappointment.

The Scotland cap would make a terrific number two to a keeper like Forster. He has already proven himself to be a very reliable player who can make big saves and keep clean sheets in important matches.

There are questions over whether he’s good enough to represent us in huge games. For example, many feel that Bain nor Gordon would have got anywhere near Forster’s amazing save in the Lazio win.

But the point remains that Bain is a big player at the club. He’s helped us to trophies and knows exactly what’s required to win more. Having him around as an understudy to someone like the big Englishman makes perfect sense.
