Scott Brown was a legend at Celtic.

One of Celtic’s most decorated players, Brown won 22 trophies in his time at Parkhead comprising of ten league titles, six Scottish Cups and six League Cups.

So when Brown took the eventual step into management, it was just a matter of time before he chapped Celtic’s door to come calling on some of the club’s young and talented academy players.

Which he has done on many occasions. Now at Ayr, Brown has told how he has signed a player from Celtic’s Academy on loan and admits that the Somerset Park club also wants to keep.

Scott Brown wants to sign ‘fantastic’ Celtic Academy talent permanently

Young Josh Clarke has been at Celtic since 2022, when he was signed from the Irish side, Glenavon. Capped at U21 level for Northern Ireland, the 20-year-old goalkeeper looks like he has a bright future in the game.

And it seems that he’s impressed Brown so much, the Celtic icon wanted to take him permanently to the south coast club.

Brown told the Ayr Advertiser, “We had a big decision to make, we’ve chopped and changed goalies and if we could’ve got Josh at the start of the season by all means we would’ve done, we wanted to keep him.

“We all know what Josh is about. He’s a fantastic character about the place, he’s well driven, he works extremely hard, and he wants the best for his footballing career.

“You want somebody like that who’s a livewire about the place.”

Celtic prospect Josh Clarke’s career to date

Clarke has never made a single first-team appearance for Celtic yet but has enjoyed plenty of experience for the B team as well as at Glenavon and on another loan spell at Airdrie.

So here is how the youngster has fared so far in his short career:

With plenty of time ahead of him, Clarke has the makings of becoming a good goalkeeper, let’s just hope he gets his chance at Celtic to see how he can perform at the Parkhead club.
