Scott Brown didn’t use many words when looking back at Celtic’s recent 2-0 win over Nomme Kalju. He took to social media and declared ‘next round now’.
His comments indicate that he has already moved of from the game, and is now focused on the next round against Cluj.
Captain was one of few mainstays selected
Despite Neil Lennon making plenty of changes for the fixture, he still picked Brown for the fixture in Estonia. That indicates that Lennon feels that Brown must start for the Hoops even in games which Celtic are making changes in.
Therefore, you would expect Brown to lead the side out in the opening league game of the season. Celtic take on St Johnstone on Saturday, when the league flag will be unfurled.
Likely to start first league game
That game comes only five days ahead of the trip to Cluj. The Cluj match is far more important, but that doesn’t mean Brown won’t start in the Premiership match.
It would not be a surprise to see Brown substituted for the Hoops during the St Johnstone game, perhaps on the hour mark.
That would give the Hoops skipper a bit of a break before the trip to Romania. Brown is coming towards the end of his career, so Celtic will want to make sure that every game Brown plays counts.
However, he will not want to miss any game time at all. Brown will be desperate to play as much football as possible. He is already looking forward to the next round of the Champions League.
