Scott Brown defends Celtic hierarchy following Champions League exit

Celtic veteran Scott Brown has defended the Hoops board and management following the midweek exit from the Champions League, the Daily Record reports.

Since the 2-1 loss to Ferencvaros the Hoops hierarchy have come under-fire from some fans disgruntled that the club have failed to qualify for Europe’s biggest club competition for the third season in a row.

However, Brown, who has captained the Hoops to huge success in the last decade, feels that both the board and management are doing all they can to improve the club each season, especially when it comes to transfers.

“We’ve got great recruitment. The board are always looking to push the budget as far as they can” Brown said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“It’s good competition”

“The manager is always looking to strengthen every area of the pitch. It’s good competition. We need to make sure we are all fighting for the jersey” Brown concluded.

Celtic do look to have signed some good players this summer. Albian Ajeti, David Turnbull and Vasilis Barkas could make a significant contribution for years to come.

However, in the aftermath of such a poor defeat, emptions are always going to run high. That is why every aspect of how Celtic was run was criticised after the Ferencvaros loss.

You can’t really argue with Celtic’s transfer business so far this season though. How the players are used though, well that is a different matter.

Captain right to defend club

It is not really a shock to see Brown defend the board and management, after all, he is the captain, and it would look odd if he spoke against either department.

What Brown has to do now is rally Celtic after a major disappointment. He has done it before in his time at the club, and he is more than capable of doing it again.

Defending the club after such a poor night in Europe could be the start of Brown’s attempts to unite the club. Hopefully it will succeed like it has in previous years.

In other news, Chris Sutton has criticised a familiar Celtic failing in Europe.
