Celtic will get their first experience of VAR in a competitive game when the Hoops take on Copenhagen in the Europa League tonight, and Scott Brown believes it is only a matter of time until the system is introduced in Scottish football, Sky Sports reports.
The aspect of VAR is an interesting sideshow in the game, and Brown has confirmed that it could even affect the Celtic player’s celebration if a goal is scored.
“We know not to get too carried away if we do score and after that hopefully we get the correct decision” he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“Get used to it”
“But it is in the competition now, and we have to get used to it because it will probably come to Scotland eventually as well, so I think all the lads need to get used to it.”
It will be frustrating for all involved in the game if the match has lengthy stoppages for VAR.
The players, fans and management will have to get used to this new world though. Should the Hoops progress in the Europa League, perhaps VAR will be less of a hindrance.
Will take time for players to adapt to new aspect
Still, it will probably take time for the players in particular get used to this football revolution, which can award penalties, give red cards and rule out offside goals.
Getting Brown’s view on VAR after the game would be intriguing, especially if a decision goes against the Hoops. He might be fervently against the concept.
Still, it looks as if VAR is here to stay, especially in European football. Only time will tell if it comes to Scotland, at least if it does Celtic will have some experience with it.
