The early season manager merry-go round continues with Celtic legend, Scott Brown, reportedly ‘keen’ to speak to St Johnstone about their vacant managerial position.
So far this season the Perth club as well as Hearts have parted ways with their managers, Craig Levein and Steven Naismith, respectively and Brown is said to want to speak to the Saints.
Brown has been enjoying a relatively successful period in the dugout ever since leaving Celtic for Aberdeen to take up a player/assistant manager role.
Getting his first big break in management with Fleetwood Town, Scott Brown made history at the League One side by reaching the fifth-round of the FA Cup before he was dismissed last season.
Now at Ayr United, the former Celtic hero has The Honest Men flying in the Championship as he bids to take them into the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 1978.
Scott Brown wants to speak to St Johnstone
And now, it seems, that Brown is ready to take his next step in management and lead St Johnstone in the SPFL.
The Daily Mail says that the Ayr boss in ‘keen’ to speak to the managerless club with Larne manager Tiernan Lynch and Aberdeen’s first-team coach Peter Leven also being looked at.
However, the report also suggests that if talks go well with St Johnstone, Brown could be in the dugout for face Celtic for the 5:45pm kick off at McDiarmid Park on Saturday night.
Brown showing his managerial credentials
As said previously, since leaving Celtic and eventually retiring from football to take the next step of his career, Brown has impressed in his short career so far.
As well well as reaching the fifth-round of the FA Cup in his first season before being knocked out 1-0 by a last-minute Burnley goal, Brown also secured Fleetwood’s League One status with a respectable 13th place finish.

However, after six-game winless run at the beginning of the following season, Brown was dismissed by Fleetwood in September 2023 and replaced by Charlie Adam.
Hired by Ayr United in January of this year Brown secured their Championship status as he picked up seven wins, three draws and six defeats out of their last 16 fixtures.
Now sitting top of the Scottish Championship albeit with an extra game played, Brown’s Ayr remain undefeated with four wins and three draws so far this season. [SPFL]
If Brown was successful in making the St Johnstone switch it would turn Saturday’s game against Celtic into blockbuster viewing.
