Celtic skipper Scott Brown has made some encouraging comments about teammate Vasilis Barkas, the Celtic View reports.

The Hoops captain has disclosed that the goalkeeper is keen to improve on his recent performances for the club, and build on his start at his new club.

“Even though he’s doing well, he’s keen to build and improve wherever he can” Brown said, as quoted by the Celtic View (Volume 56, Issue 9, Page. 14).

“He’ll make saves for us”

“Vasilis is a great shot-stopper, he’ll make saves for us in the big games, and he wants to play football and out from the back as well, and we try to do that as much as we possibly can.”

Those comments from Brown are encouraging for Celtic fans on a number of levels. Firstly, Barkas’ goal to improve his game is a sound one.

Many football players may do this. However, Barkas is following in the footsteps of a modern day Celtic legend in Fraser Forster.

That is why it is so important for the player to raise his game. That will ensure he performs as well as Forster did in his second spell with the club.

Brown’s comments about playing out from the back and playing football are also a good sign. It shows that the player has quickly brought into the style of play that the Hoops play, and is looking to make his game fit that.

Already shown shot-stopping ability in recent win

Barkas has already shown his shot-stopping ability in the recent win over Ross County. Therefore, you can see where Brown is coming from with that comment.

As has already been said, it was never going to be easy for Forster following in the footsteps of a Celtic great like Fraser Forster. However, he has started his career with the club well enough.

The fact that he aims to improve as his time at the club goes on though is very encouraging. Who knows, by the end of the year Celtic fans could have forgotten all about Fraser Forster in favour of Vasilis Barkas.

In other news, Neil Lennon has no need to defend a recent team selection he made.
