Scott Brown on the best thing Brendan Rodgers has ever done for Celtic, not what you think

Scott Brown doesn’t think the countless number of trophies or the ‘Invincible Treble’ success is the best thing Brendan Rodgers has brought to Celtic.

With the Northern Irishman at the helm first time around, the Hoops dominated the Scottish football landscape in devastating fashion.

Rodgers, despite what happened later regarding his exit, will always be remembered for those years and he’s on a path now to deliver even more silverware for Celtic having returned to the club.

Brown was Rodgers’ linchpin on the pitch and was lucky enough as captain to lift honour after honour with Celtic during those years.

You’d think Broony would place Rodgers’ ability to deliver those accolades year-on-year was his most impressive Parkhead feat but no, the Celtic legend thinks differently.

And it all stems around the last Glasgow derby, as Celtic ran out as 2-1 winners over Rangers to open up a sizeable lead at the top of the Premiership.

Brown thinks Rangers shoot themselves in the feet in the build-up to derbies by opening their mouths too much instead of keeping it on low like Celtic prefer to do.

We were all privy to that when Michael Beale was Ibrox boss in particular and it never ever worked out for him when up against either Ange Postecoglou or Rodgers.

Broony thinks his old manager is an expert at managing what is said before Glasgow derbies and then going on to do the talking on the pitch.

That is what, according to Broony, is the best thing Rodgers has ever brought to Celtic as manager of the club. When referencing the build-up to the recent New Year clash, Brown said: “Celtic are quiet. They don’t speak too much, they don’t get too excited.

“They stay kind of mellow all the way through and I think that’s the best thing that Brendan ever brought to the football club. He’s always just made sure things are ticking over quietly and working towards the game ahead.

“But it sparks you a little bit more. You let them speak then you go and dictate, win the game and then you’re like, ‘Yeah mate, there you go!’.”

Brown was then asked if Rangers yapped too much before the derby. He replied: “Yes. You see all of the fans jumping on the bandwagon as well.

“But, for me, Celtic got it spot on. They knew how to go and play against Rangers, they knew what they were going to do. Rangers had a couple of chances, but Celtic dominated the game.

“The Celtic press was exceptional compared to Rangers. You look at the Celtic front six. They’ll go and press and work hard. That’s the difference between the two teams. If you look at the distance covered by both of them, nine times out of ten, whoever works the hardest wins the game.”
