Celtic captain Scott Brown reckons that Leigh Griffiths is getting back to his best – and it won’t be too long before the forward is playing at the top-level for club and country.

Griffiths has leapt back onto the scene so far this season, netting three goals in as many starts. All of his strikes have been from outside the box, with two of them coming from trademark free-kicks.

And while teammate and friend Brown has been delighted with his return, he still thinks Griffiths can improve and make the leap for club and country.

“It’d be great for him to get back to that situation,” Brown told BBC Scotland.

“To get back to that fitness level, for him to get back to that belief as well that every shot that he’s going to hit is going to go in the back of the net because he is one of the best finishers I’ve ever seen.

“He’s getting fitter, he’s getting sharper, he’s getting stronger on that left foot. We all know it’s a wand. We just want him back to his best for Celtic and for Scotland because we know how vital he is for us.”

Brown is right, Griffiths can get even better

In all the summer hysteria over Kieran Tierney, and David Turnbull prior to that, the return of Griffiths has perhaps gone a little under the radar.

The 28-year-old was expected to make some sort of impression this summer but he really has exceeded all expectations. His performance at Fir Park on Saturday was just like the old days. It was perhaps the quietest he’s been since coming back, but he still found the net with a crucial strike just prior to half-time.

It’s also no coincidence that Odsonne Edouard has started this season so well. Despite scoring 23 goals last term, the Frenchman could often be criticised for not looking quite up for it – especially in the first-half of the season.

This year he has been on it from day one and has also bagged three goals. It’s no coincidence that he is looking so alert while Griffiths pushes him for a starting spot. Neil Lennon must be licking his lips.
