Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald knows a thing or two about the Hoops making progression in Europe. He was part of the Celtic squad which made the last 16 of the Champions League in 2008.
He firmly believes that the current side Celtic can also make progress in Europe, and reach the latter stages of the Europa League.
“Phenomenal”
“The football they’ve been playing is phenomenal” McDonald said, as reported by BBC Sport. “They’ve still got Rennes to come to Celtic Park, so I’m more than confident they will reach the next stage.”
Celtic certainly do look to be in a good position to reach the last 32 of the Europa League at the moment. They sit at the top of Group E with seven points, and a positive result in Italy would all but guarantee that the Hoops reach the last 32 of the competition.
As McDonald says, the Hoops still have to play a Rennes side that are in a poor position in the group. They have only one point after three games.

That is the game which follows Thursday’s game against Lazio in the group stages. A win over Rennes would be a very good result for the Hoops, as Lazio play Cluj the same night, and the result of that game could help the Hoops make the last 32.
Nobody at Celtic will be taking progress in the Europa League for granted. However, at the moment, the Hoops are in an excellent position in the group stages. It is easy to see why McDonald is so confident about Celtic progression in the competition.
