The Scott McTominay interest in January certainly didn’t have many urging the deal to get over the line.
Celtic were linked with a loan move for the Manchester United youngster towards the end of last month. As you could imagine, it didn’t bring out a huge seal of approval from Celtic supporters either.
Yet, on Sunday, McTominay stepped his game up a gear against Liverpool. As United held the Premier League leaders to a draw at Old Trafford, McTominay was starring in it.
He had such a good display on Sunday that he was even named in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week. Holding off the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson, there was plenty to like about the United starlet.
This also comes at a time when Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie, and Tom Rogic are all struggling with injuries. Adding the likes of McTominay into the mix could’ve provided some decent cover.
It looks as though McTominay could be in for a run of games given United’s injury crisis. Celtic could do a lot worse than keeping tabs on him between now and the end of the season. He certainly turned a few heads from us after his display on Sunday.
Could be in for a run of games – Celtic should keep tabs on him?
So far this term, the Scottish international has made 14 appearances for club and country. Therefore, it would be highly unlikely that he’s in the United starting XI once they beef up their squad in the summer.
Yet, with Brendan Rodgers having reportedly agreed to take over at Leicester, you have to wonder about whether Celtic will still be interested in the summer.
At the moments, there are certainly more pertinent things on the club’s mind. If Rodgers has left, then the hunt for a new manager overtakes everything else.
But McTominay proved he can operate at a high level over the weekend. It may very well be worth just keeping an eye on his progress between now and the summer.
