Former Celtic favourites Scott Sinclair and Filip Benkovic have sent messages of support to Conor Hazard on Instagram after the goalkeeper’s debut for the club on Thursday night.

Hazard was the man between the sticks for the visit of French side Lille, performing well throughout his first 90 minutes and making a crucial save in the second half.

The Northern Ireland international is clearly buzzing with his big opportunity, stating on Instagram: “Delighted to make debut last night 💚 incredible feeling 🙌 great result ✅”

Thousands of supporters have responded with ‘likes’, and several current and former teammates have flooded the comments with messages of support.

Preston North End winger Scott Sinclair said underneath the post: “Congrats geeza!!! Well done 👊🏽”

An exciting seven days for Celtic fans is about to get underway

Filip Benkovic meanwhile, on loan at Cardiff City from Leicester, said: “Hazoo so happy for you, congrats!!!!”

Others thrilled with the 22-year-old include Jeremie Frimpong, Scott Robertson, Jonathan Afolabi and Calvin Miller.

Hazard will be hoping this is just the beginning for him in the Celtic team, as Neil Lennon prepares to make a huge decision on the goalkeeping position this weekend.

With Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain also both available, the manager may bring in a more experienced option for the Scottish Premiership clash.

However, for me, Barkas is clearly still adapting to life in Scotland and at Celtic.

The goalkeeping position is one based on confidence, and while the Greek international sorts himself out, it wouldn’t hurt to give Hazard a run to see what he can do.

His hunger to stake a claim could be just what we need through this crucial December period.
