Scott Sinclair doesn’t know if he’ll be in the Celtic team on Saturday

Celtic winger Scott Sinclair today admitted that he doesn’t know if he’ll make the team to face Hearts on Saturday.

Celtic’s treble-treble bid is at stake this weekend. The Jambos will come to Hampden in a bid to put a stop to Celtic’s dream. Therefore, correct team selection is going to be vital from Neil Lennon.

Sinclair has been a favourite of the Northern Irishman since he joined Celtic in February. He’s featured in 11 of Lennon’s 13 games in charge. The only matches he’s been dropped for was a trip to St Mirren and a home match against Livingston. Every big game, the Englishman has played a part.

But speaking to the media this afternoon, Sinclair hinted that he has no clue yet whether he’s in the team for Saturday.

Speculation over Mikey Johnston starting must grow

There’s a big question over the left-mid position this weekend. Sinclair not knowing whether he’s starting perhaps isn’t unusual for this time of the week, but Johnston has really stepped up the pressure on him.

Lennon also hinted to the BBC (17:31) after the Hearts game last weekend that Johnston had played his way into contention. He came close to admitting he would make the team, but it’s still up for debate as it stands.

Johnston was on fire against the Jambos at Parkhead on Sunday. His electric feet helped produce a double that saw Celtic see off Craig Levein’s men.

Interestingly, however, Johnston started off down the right flank. He did alternate sides, but he looked extremely natural down the right side too. It’s highly unlikely he would be overtaking James Forrest in the side for Sunday. But there’s no reason to believe he couldn’t be more impactful than Sinclair.

Players who come out in the media don’t necessarily get guaranteed starts. So Sinclair taking part in today’s press conference doesn’t change much. It’s what he does on the pitch that counts, and the Englishman has failed to perform under Lennon.

It’s interesting to hear that Sinclair doesn’t know if he’s in or not. Even more so considering Lennon’s tease over Johnston’s involvement this weekend. Here’s hoping the right decision is made, whatever the interim boss goes with.
