Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has taken to Instagram to share his thoughts on the season at Aberdeen and to communicate he’s set to take time on his next career decision.

Brown left Pittodrie earlier this week to focus on his coaching ambitions after it became clear he wouldn’t be utilised in that capacity under Jim Goodwin at the Dons.

In a statement on Instagram, the Celtic legend said in part: “Unfortunately the season didn’t go as well as we had hoped, and with the managerial change at the Club, the opportunity to both play and coach wasn’t there anymore. After speaking with Jim and Aberdeen, we decided it was best for us to part ways.

“It has been a whirlwind few days and I am going to take some to time to consider all my options and relax with my family. I am sure I will get a few rounds of golf in as well.”

It goes without saying that Brown is a popular figure with his former teammates and many have flocked to his Instagram to leave a comment and show their support.

Former Celtic favourites Joe Ledley and Scott Sinclair are among them while Nir Bitton simply said: “Legend of the game.”

Brown is going to have plenty of offers, so it’s no surprise he’s taking a bit of time out to relax and take stock of his options.

Brendan Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou have both already confirmed they’d be willing to take him at Leicester City or Celtic if he so wishes. That shows the level of club he could immediately turn to.

There’s also the chance that if he doesn’t fancy being part of a youth coaching setup he immediately tests the waters in a managerial sense, having already unsuccessfully applied for the St Mirren job.

I’m sure there are plenty of Scottish clubs who wouldn’t mind having a chat with him.

A few rounds of golf first though!
