Scott Sinclair’s display against Hibernian this afternoon certainly hasn’t impressed many if anyone of a Celtic persuasion.

The Hoops stuttered today to a 0-0 draw at Easter Road. For those who maybe missed the game, Sinclair only came on for the final 20 minutes of the contest. He wasn’t anywhere near the biggest problem on the pitch, but he didn’t do anything of note after coming on.

Too often this season, Sinclair has come on and provided nothing as a substitute. Neil Lennon seemed to lose trust in him given the fact he’s been out of the starting line-up recently. But in saying that, Lennon has still been featuring him regularly from the bench.

Some of the supporters, however, have seen enough of the winger. Reacting to Sinclair’s performance on social media, supporters had this to say on his outing:

Not playing his way to a new contract

So if the question was asked tomorrow regarding giving Sinclair a new contract, would you do it? I certainly wouldn’t!

The Englishman hasn’t made any sort of impact since Lennon came in the door. He may have scored 17 goals this season, but he has just one goal in his last 10 appearances. He hasn’t been performing consistently for some time.

The truth is, if we really want to stretch away next season, we have to do better than Sinclair down the left. He’s never been the same player since his first season under Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead. After his player-of-the-year success, he’s progressively gotten worse and worse.

Granted, he wasn’t the main problem today. Not taking our chances thanks to profligate finishing from Odsonne Edouard and James Forrest were two of the main reasons.

But bringing Sinclair on is becoming an absolute waste of time considering how little he gives the team when he does feature.

It’s easy to point to his goals and say “well have a bit of that”. But the truth is, he’s been far too ineffective for such an important area of our team. Celtic can and need to do better this summer.
