Scott Sinclair unlikely to be Celtic hero at Pittodrie this time around

Celtic head to Aberdeen on their next Premiership encounter on Sunday, looking to stay at the top of the league table.

Even though the Hoops were in action on Thursday against Lazio, Neil Lennon’s side should still be confident going into the game. The reason is that Celtic have such a good record at Pittodrie.

The Hoops have won their last six visits to Pittodrie on league duty. They clinched their eighth title in a row at the venue last season with a 3-0 win.

Celtic also won a memorable seven-goal thriller 4-3 last December at Pittodrie. The Celtic player who was the start of that Boxing Day triumph is unlikely to feature in the next visit to Aberdeen. That player is Hoops attacker Scott Sinclair.

Sinclair helped himself to a hat-trick in that 4-3 victory. In total, he scored four goals against the Dons last season. Despite that good form, and even though Hoops attacker Ryan Christie is suspended don’t expect Sinclair to play a prominent role in the game.

Back in first-team squad recently

Sinclair has yet to start a game for Celtic this season. Even his substitute performances have been few and far between. Most weeks he has not even made the squad. Interestingly, he was back in the squad for the recent game against Lazio, but he didn’t make it onto the pitch.

The best Sinclair can probably hope for is a second-half appearance as a substitute. That is just the way it is has been for the player this season.

It looks likely that he will leave Celtic either in January or next summer. He will want to play football on a regular basis as he comes to the last few years of his footballing career. It is a pity that his time at the club seems to be fizzing out after a good three seasons. Hopefully Celtic fans have a chance to give the player a fond farewell before he eventually leaves.
