We continue our season report of Celtic’s players in 2018/19 with a look at Celtic’s number 17 Ryan Christie.
The emergence of Ryan Christie is one of Celtic’s success stories of 2018/19. He has gone from a player who looked to have not much of a future at the club to one of the most important players in the team.
Christie made his presence felt in the Betfred Cup semi-final win over Hearts. He scored a superb goal in that game, and didn’t look back, forcing his way into the first-team.

Injuries derailed season
Unfortunately, injuries have derailed some of his season, as he suffered both a hamstring injury, and multiple facial fractures, which caused him to miss the end of the season.
Despite the injuries, Christie still managed to score double figures for the season, hitting 11 goals.

Natural successor to key man
He seems to be the natural successor to Stuart Armstrong in the Hoops squad, scoring from midfield in a way the Hoops have lacked since Armstrong left the club.

Christie should be one of the lynchpins of the team under Neil Lennon next season. Injury issues have meant that Christie only played three of the games Lennon was in charge of last season.
Lennon has still to see the very best of the player. When he does, he will surely give Christie a starting berth in the side every week.
His performances have earned him one.
