We continue our look at how Celtic players fared in 2018/19 when a review of the Celtic number 23 Mikael Lustig’s season.

Mikael Lustig’s season was a definition of a roller-coaster year, with plenty of ups and downs. On the plus side, he fought off Jeremy Toljan to keep his place in the team as right-back. His header also set up Odsonne Edouard’s Scottish Cup winning goal which clinched the ‘treble treble’.

On the down side, he turned in two poor performances at Ibrox, both of which were curtailed by injury. Now there is doubt over his future with the club.

Lustig recently gave an interview to Aftonbladet which seemed to indicate he wasn’t happy about off-field issues at the club. That could be a reference to the contract he was offered by Celtic. He is out of contract and can speak to other clubs.

Very successful spell with club

Lustig has enjoyed a massively successful career with the Hoops. But it cannot be argued that his performances have been in decline for the past few seasons.

Despite that, Neil Lennon wanted to keep Lustig at the club, and had reintroduced him into the side. However, it is not yet known where Lustig will be playing next season.

If he does depart the Hoops, he can look back on a series of trophy-laden seasons and will no doubt leave the club as a legend.
