We continue our season report series with a look at Celtic utility man Nir Bitton.
The season didn’t start until after the winter break for Nir Bitton. After being out action for the entire first-half of the season, he returned against Airdrieonians in the Scottish Cup.
With the Hoops having a bit of an injury crisis, he kept his place in the side for Brendan Rodgers’ last match in charge, the 4-1 win over Motherwell.
Bitton also started Neil Lennon’s first games in charge, the massive away wins over Hearts and Hibs.
Highlight of the season
His performance against Hibs in the Scottish Cup was probably the highlight of his season, he helped the Hoops gain control of midfield on the way to a 2-0 win.
Since then, he has mostly featured on the bench, but Neil Lennon will not want him to leave the club anytime soon.
It was Lennon that brought Bitton to the club in his first spell as manager. He knows about the qualities that Bitton has, in both defence and midfield.
More than capable of doing a job
He will rarely be a first-pick for the Hoops, but he has on multiple occasions that he is more than capable of filling in when required.
With the Hoops only two titles away from 10 in a row, Lennon will want Celtic’s experienced players to stay at the club as long as possible.
Even though Bitton’s contract expires in a year, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him sign an extension. He has earned one after all his years of service with the club.
