We continue our season review of Celtic’s players in 2018-19 with a look at Celtic’s number 27, Youssouf Mulumbu.

Youssouf Mulumbu’s Celtic career has not been much to write home about so far. The player was signed as a free agent on the last day of the summer transfer window last year.

He immediately made his Hoops debut in a 2-1 loss to former side Kilmarnock, one of only three appearances he made for the Hoops.

The player then joined Kilmarnock on loan for the second-half of the season, but has now returned to Celtic.

Must impress manager

It seems like the only way Mulumbu will be able to save his Hoops career will be if he impresses Neil Lennon.

Lennon has yet to witness the midfielder in action, as the player was at Kilmarnock when Lennon took over as interim manager.

Now that he is the permanent Hoops boss, Lennon will have the chance to see the player for himself. Should Mulumbu impress in the upcoming pre-season fixtures, perhaps he will have a chance of making it at Celtic.

Should he fail to stand out, it is probably for the best if he finds another club. Perhaps a third spell at Kilmarnock would be a good move for the player.

Celtic have a multitude of central midfielders. Therefore, breaking into the side isn’t going to easy. Mulumbu must use pre-season to show Lennon that he deserves a chance at Celtic.
