We continue our end of season review of Celtic players in 2018/19 with a look at Celtic number 33 Marvin Compper’s season.
What is there to say about Marvin Compper’s season? Not much, as he didn’t play a single minute of first-team football.
He featured in some reserve games, was on the pitch when the Hoops lifted the Premiership trophy, but apart from that very little was seen of the centre-back.
Didn’t feature during injury problems
Even when Celtic suffered injury problems at the back, Compper didn’t feature at all. In his two seasons at Celtic, he has played only one game for the club.
The Celtic board must look to try to find a way to get Compper off the books at the club. He still has a year left on his contract, but if he is not going to play there is no point keeping him at the club.
Could be content to see out contract
Unfortunately, the player could be content to stay at the club for another season. He could be getting good wages. For that reason alone will want to stay, even that means no prospect of a game for the Hoops.
Perhaps Compper will feature in Celtic’s upcoming pre-season tour of Austria. After all, he has played for the reserves.
The bottom line though, is that the Hoops should look to come to sort of deal with Compper to pay up his contract. That might be easier said than done though.
