We continue our season review of Celtic’s players in season 2018/19 with a look at how Celtic’s number 42 Callum McGregor fared.

Callum McGregor arguably had the best season of his career in 2018-19. The Hoops midfielder was at the heart of the good football played by Celtic in the season.

Highly rated by team-mates

He was unfortunate not to be named as Scotland’s player of the year, but was named player of the year by his Celtic team-mates, which shows how highly they rate him.

McGregor’s influence for both club and country was shown by the fact that he played 69 games for Celtic and Scotland last season, that shows how important a player he is.

It has to be a concern that clubs in England could take an interest in him. McGregor’s form has been so good he is bound to have caught the eye.

Indeed, it has been reported that Leicester, managed by Brendan Rodgers, are interested in signing the player.

Club must resist any bids

A bid for McGregor by a team this summer does seem somewhat inevitable. However, Celtic should resist any bid that comes in.

McGregor is far too important to the club to even think about selling. No matter how big the offer, in the season with Celtic going for nine in a row, the player cannot be sold.

McGregor looks to be entering into the prime of his career. That prime will hopefully be spent with Celtic.
