It’s fair to say that Peter Lawwell has been taking some heat over the last couple of days.
I myself had my own go at him too for how he handled our managerial appointment. It came across as amateurish and lazy. Not because Neil Lennon was appointed, but in the fact no other managerial candidate was spoken too (Scottish Sun).

And today, he dropped another couple of bombshells on supporters that haven’t gone down well either. Speaking in the Scotsman today, Lawwell claimed that the squad doesn’t need much rebuilding, and also claimed that managerial candidates who got in touch were stored away and not looked at.
Fans haven’t taken too kindly to the comments either. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to the news on social media.

Fans entitled to an opinion
Everyone in the Celtic family appears to have chipped in with their opinions. Many are fuming with Lawwell and how he’s gone about his business over the last couple of days. It’s important to also recognise that others are keen to move on and believe Lawwell has it covered.

But those who are complaining have every right to voice their opinion on the football club they love. Lawwell has went about this in risky fashion. The timing of the appointment and the dismissive attitude to other candidates is a head-scratcher. Sure, Lawwell and the board likely wanted to take advantage of the feel-good feeling around the club after beating Hearts on Saturday, but it did genuinely make certain fans less happy about the treble treble success.
Lawwell has had big questions asked of him before. His cost-cutting has frustrated fans in the past, but looking at the position the club is in domestically as it stands, Lawwell does have results on his side.

He has to pray that the board’s trust in Lennon works out and is well placed. After all, we refused to even check what was out there before appointing Lennon.
This may drag on a while yet. Lennon has plenty of fans to win over. When he does build his own team, it’ll be intriguing to see what the end result is. Until then, the Celtic gaffer doesn’t deserve any criticism for recent events.
