Greg Taylor to Celtic has been doing the rounds once again today.

The Daily Record have reported that the Kilmarnock left-back is high on a list of replacements for Kieran Tierney. This all comes after the BBC reported last night that Arsenal had managed to have a bid accepted for our star-man.

Taylor, meanwhile, has been one of the most consistent players in Scotland over the last several years. Working under Steve Clarke in recent times, the full-back has become a real attacking and defensive asset for Killie.

But news of his link to Celtic certainly hasn’t been met with widespread joy amongst our support. Here’s a look at some of the views from the Hoops fanbase on social media:

Greg Taylor to Celtic would do us in a domestic sense – question marks are still there however

He’s now made 128 appearances for Kilmarnock and has proved to be a stalwart for the Ayrshire side. That, of course, doesn’t mean you’re good enough to play regularly for Celtic.

But there’s no denying Taylor has the qualities to become a top-class Premiership player. The problem wouldn’t be in a domestic sense really. He has the attributes to cause teams in Scotland danger, especially with the possession we would have on a weekly basis.

For Taylor, the problem would be that he’s totally untested at a higher level. He’s never played Champions League football, and lost his first-ever European qualifier to Connah’s Quay Nomads this summer. Granted, it wasn’t Taylor’s fault individually, but he played a part.

Considering the signing of Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo hasn’t gone down too well as of yet, we could do with someone with a little bit more pedigree. Don’t tell us Celtic can’t afford it. If Tierney makes his expected departure from Parkhead, we’ll be cash-rich.

Much of that money should be spent on a new left-back to battle Boli. A cheap, six-figure offer for Taylor wouldn’t suffice in terms of the ambition being shown by the board.

Taylor is a fine footballer, and will have a good career. But if Celtic move for him, our overall quality at left-back would still be a concern.
