The Daily Mail’s Stephen McGowan has tweeted that Aaron Hickey’s preferred destination this summer would be a move to Serie A side Bologna.
Celtic have long been linked with a move for the Hearts defender (Daily Record). Former Jambos manager Craig Levein even stated that the Hoops had tried to buy Hickey “five or six times” in the past (BBC).
However, it looks as though the player has his mind set on a move to Italy. McGowan tweeted that European Champions Bayern Munich were also interested in a move for the defender, but that he’s ready to commit himself to a £1.3million move to Bologna instead.

Interestingly, the Scottish Sun last night put a different perspective on things from a Celtic viewpoint. They reported that the Hoops has no interest in making a move for the Hearts youngster.
Hickey has already made 34 appearances at senior level for the Tynecastle club, and can play at either left or right-back (Transfermarkt).
Hickey was never a must-have
Yes, there’s real potential in the Hearts man, we all know that. He’s composed on the ball, comfortable playing out from the back, and has decent pace on him too.
However, is he a player who just pitches up in Glasgow and waltzes straight into our first team? Absolutely not. The Hearts youngster would still have some way to go before he could stake a claim for Greg Taylor’s position.
We spoke earlier this week about the necessity of finding a new first-choice left-back before the third qualifying round of the Champions League, should we make it that far.

The importance of that still can’t be understated. Hickey, however, wouldn’t have been that man. He would’ve been one for the future and still would be even if he ends up at Parkhead.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Celtic had indeed dropped their interest in him in any case. There really are more pressing areas of concern including finding a new centre-back, first-choice left-back, and a right-winger.
For now, it looks as though we can put a cross through Hickey’s name. He may end up being a fine player in the years to come, but for Celtic, all we should be focusing on now is 10-in-a-row.
In other news, an English Premier League star has admitted he tried to sway Albian Ajeti towards Parkhead.
