The Celtic support just couldn’t be bothered with Chris Sutton’s over-the-top verdict on the nature of our rebuild this summer.
After losing 10-in-a-row this season, attention is quickly turning to what’s next for the football club. With a host of loan signings heading back to their clubs and several big stars looking like leaving, there looks like being a high level of player turnover this summer.
However, it appears that Sutton was getting a bit carried away when talking to the Daily Record’s Celtic podcast. As he touched on where Celtic go from here, Chris said the following:
“Patience is the most important thing. Celtic are going to go through some hard yards next season, in my opinion. Hopefully, they’ll come out the following season and really be able to push. But this rebuild isn’t going to happen overnight. It isn’t going to be a click of the fingers.
“That would be absolute miracle stuff unless Dermot Desmond turns around and says, ‘Well I’m backing the manager to a tune of £50 or £60 million to allow signings to come in to really push Rangers because that is the sort of money, maybe even more, that it will take to really go shoulder to shoulder with Rangers.”
Chris Sutton makes thoughts clear on Celtic rebuild; but it’s nowhere near as big a job as that
You can understand why some may think there’s a long-term project that needs to be followed before we catch Rangers. With a new chief executive and new footballing structure coming to the club this summer, there will definitely be plenty of change.
However, it’s not going to take to the tune of £60m. Look at where Rangers came from back in the Pedro Caixinha days to now. They haven’t exactly spent £60m in that period. So why would Celtic, after just immediately losing the title, need such a crazy haul of cash to stop their rivals?

The truth is, we know what this Celtic team can do on its day. The likes of Callum McGregor, David Turnbull, Ismaila Soro etc. There is plenty of high-quality talent staying in Glasgow’s East End for this season.
Are we really going to pretend that Celtic shouldn’t have enough quality by the start of the new season to challenge again? A side that showed exactly what it could do to Rangers at Ibrox back in December when they bossed proceedings? They need strong leadership more than anything these days.
