Usually, games between Celtic and Rangers are feisty and deliver plenty of post-match talking points.
Refereeing decisions are often at the centre of that, but it wasn’t the case after Celtic earned a 1-1 draw against Rangers last Sunday at Ibrox.
Controversy was kept to a minimum with only the guard of honour discourse, the Rangers tifo display and the Ibrox club’s fan behaviour taking centre stage before and after the game.
There was, however, a penalty incident that seemed to annoy Rangers fans because in the end, they did not get it. And it involved Ianis Hagi and Celtic skipper Callum McGregor.

KMI panel agree with Rangers vs Celtic penalty call
McGregor slid in to retrieve the ball off of Hagi inside the penalty area and the Romanian went down under the Celtic midfielder’s challenge.
It was clear at the time there was no foul committed as on-field referee Nick Walsh correctly waved play on. VAR had a little look but decided no intervention was required.
And those calls made by Walsh and the VAR have now been unanimously backed up by the SFA’s KMI panel.
They voted 5:0 in favour of no penalty, with the notes simply stating: “The on-field decision was unanimously supported.”
Two more Glasgow derby incidents reviewed by KMI panel
These two decisions hardly need discussed because in the end, they were factually correct decisions made during the game.
But they are included in the KMI panel’s key outcomes report and they revolve around Nicolas Raskin’s chalked off goal and Adam Idah’s Celtic equaliser.
Raskin thought he’d put Rangers ahead early in the game with the assistant referee failing to spot that he was in an offside position.
It went to VAR and they correctly adjudged the Belgian was offside. That view has been supported by the KMI panel, who noted: “The panel unanimously agreed that the on-field onside decision was incorrect. The panel highlighted VAR was correct to intervene and disallow the goal for offside.
For Idah’s goal, the assistant referee flagged Daizen Maeda as offside in the build-up. This was incorrect and the VAR overturned the on-field call to award the strike.
Again, the KMI panel fully agree, stating: “The panel unanimously agreed that the on-field offside decision was incorrect. The panel highlighted VAR was correct to intervene and award the goal.”
