Shane Duffy makes bullish Celtic goal prediction as he reveals set-piece was perfectly planned

Shane Duffy doesn’t think too many teams will be able to cope with Celtic’s attacking set-pieces if Callum McGregor continues following instructions like yesterday, speaking to The Scottish Sun.

McGregor hung the perfect corner up for Duffy to attack in the air as the Ireland captain netted on his debut for the Scottish champions.

It’s the kind of aerial assault that Celtic fans were excited about when he signed and bodes well for the future this season.

Duffy is feeling great about the goal opportunities the Bhoys now have at set-pieces and shared he had instructed McGregor specifically to send in a corner like the one that led to the goal.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: “It was great to get the goal, a clean sheet and the win, it was a good day, but still with a lot to improve on.

“I just said to Cal to hang it up for me.

“We’ve got three big threats now at centre-half and two of us scored. So if Cal puts it in the right areas then I can’t see many people dealing with it.

“It was straight off the sweet spot, I attacked it well. It was obviously a proud moment for me today, it was something I’ve always wanted to do and now I’ve done it.”

With Duffy and Christopher Jullien both in the opposition box, as well as Kristoffer Ajer, it really is a unit that could add significantly to the Celtic goal tally this season.

That gives the Bhoys a different dimension on the quest for victories.

Neil Lennon’s teams at Celtic have traditionally benefited from set-piece goals and it sounds like he finally has the talent able to capitalise.

Hopefully McGregor continues on set-piece duty going forward too, with Ryan Christie’s efforts of late not exactly being great in that department.

It’s one more positive to take from yesterday’s big 5-0 win.
