It appears that the Sheffield United supporters want Celtic to avoid going for George Baldock this summer as they appear fearful of selling him.
The right-back was last night linked with a move to Parkhead after previously being on our radar in 2019. It was reported by the Daily Record that the Blades could look to make personnel changes after demotion to the Championship. Celtic, meanwhile, are said to have Baldock high on their list of targets.
Baldock was a constant in the United side that competed in the Premier League over the last two years. He’s bagged 74 appearances over the previous two campaigns, and has a reputation for being an attack-minded full-back.
Celtic are badly in the market for right-back reinforcements too. They only have Anthony Ralston and Lee O’Connor available for selection. The Hoops clearly need better, and Baldock would certainly represent that.
However, it comes with an issue. Sheffield are under no pressure to sell. With a new contract signed as recently as December, they can look to drum up a fee for their star man.
Sheffield United could be difficult to negotiate with for Celtic
Given their lack of pressure in selling, they won’t let one of their best players go on the cheap. Even the likes of £7m-£10m would likely be viewed as a lesser figure by the Championship club.
It hasn’t been reported how much Celtic would be willing to invest in Baldock. Or indeed how much we’re ready to put aside for the right-back position. However, the Parkhead club can offer Baldock things he’s never experienced in his lifetime.

At 28, it’s now or never for him regarding making a move that will help him win medals. He’s yet to win a single thing or play in Europe. Celtic could help him achieve both and put a different perspective on his career.
However, their supporters appear to be a touch defensive over the prospect of Celtic taking their man. There’s most certainly a hint of fear in their tone as they refused to entertain the notion of Baldock leaving them for Parkhead.
Here’s a look at what they’ve been saying about the speculation:
