Former Celtic midfielder Si Ferry has recalled a training ground bust-up between Stiliyan Petrov and Evander Sno a number of years ago.
The pair apparently clashed in a heated incident while under the stewardship of Gordon Strachan. Ferry, who was a Celtic youth at the time, recalled the incident on the Open Goal: Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast.
“I remember Evander Sno and Petrov fought at training,” he said.
“Honestly it was like two heavyweights fighting.
“Petrov was kind of wanting out of Celtic at that point and was just booting everyone in training.
“He booted big Snowy and it was a proper square-go.
“I loved it, it was battle of the titans.”
Ferry detailed a routine Celtic training ground occurrence
Ferry’s revelation may come as a bit of a surprise to some Celtic fans. Both Petrov and Sno were seen as pretty well mannered, gentle guys so it just goes to show how heated things can become during training.
There have been a couple of reports of the current first-team having some incidents during training. A couple of months ago, Hoops loanee Daniel Arzani told a tale of Scott Brown going for youngster Armstrong Oko-Flex after he nutmegged him in training.
Fans may like to believe that things are always calm and fair in training but the truth is that all good teams need that edge. The will to win and improve as players doesn’t just come on matchdays – it’s also prominent in training.
As long as the team are winning on the pitch, and the manager is well in control, it doesn’t really matter what goes on behind closed doors.
