Just like Adam Idah at Norwich City, Matt O’Riley’s Celtic future also hangs in the balance this summer.

With ten clubs already linked to O’Riley, it seems like Brendan Rodgers faces a battle to hang onto his star midfielder.

O’Riley impressed in the US Tour pre-season wins against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea as the Celtic midfielder put any transfer talk to the back of his mind to prepare for the new season ahead.

But as the headlines continue to focus on his Celtic future, Simon Donnelly has shared his prediction on what he thinks will happen with O’Riley this summer.

‘The reality’ facing Celtic and Matt O’Riley

The former Celtic striker is hoping that the Danish international stays at Celtic beyond this summer but admits that there is a ‘reality’ facing the Parkhead club and O’Riley in this transfer window.

Donnelly said [Superscoreboard], “Regarding Matt O’Riley, listen, anybody connected with Celtic wants Matt to stay.

“The big question is, ‘Will he?’. The reality of that is I think he probably will move on before the transfer window is shut.

“Listen, I hope not. I mean, he started the preseason in great form again. He’s taken off where he left off last season.

“He’s been excellent, one of, if not, the top player at Celtic. So obviously from that point of view, you want him to stay.

“But the reality is if something comes with the money that Celtic want, he’ll be away.”

Atalanta seems to be the club that is making the most noise about the Celtic midfielder but, as yet, the Serie A side has failed to match the club’s valuation of the 23-year-old.

With a contract until 2027, Celtic is firmly in the driving seat when it comes to allowing O’Riley to talk to interested parties.

But with over four weeks left of the summer transfer window to go, it is likely that Celtic will field more interest for O’Riley as interest in the player continues to grow.
