Now that Brendan Rodgers has his first year under his belt at Celtic, the transfer silly season begins as the club looks to strengthen this summer.
The upcoming Champions League campaign is one where the Celtic boss will be keen to improve the Parkhead side’s fortunes.
But to do that, the Celtic boss will need to bring in quality players. And as we all know, quality players cost a lot of money.
Which is why Simon Donnelly has urged Celtic to splash the cash on one man he reckons can handle the pressure of playing for the club.
Celtic told to spend £10m on Adam Idah
Adam Idah was a revelation for Celtic in the second half this season. His goals alone kept Rodgers in the hunt for the title and after scoring a last-minute winner in the Scottish Cup, Donelly has urged the club to ‘go and get him’
Donnelly said [Superscoreboard], “I don’t think his Instagram thing was a thing. I think they should go and get him.
“Whether they have to spend six, seven [million pounds] I think he’s done enough to be considered.
“If you’re pitching yourself for a club, then you can do no better than score the winner in the Scottish Cup.
“£10m? Why not? As we touched on in the break there Celtic don’t tend to go and spend that sort of figure.
“But there has to be a reality as well. The guy has been in the building and has done what’s asked of him so far.
“So there’s that side of it. Just handling the jersey, the manager knows he can go and play. He’s scored a couple of goals against Rangers and that is something that will stand him in good stead going forward as opposed to somebody else who would become completely new coming in.
“So I think he’s got a wee advantage there. Because he’s come in for four or five months and he’s popped up with eight or nine goals.
“But important goals. Important goals for Celtic. So I think he’s done enough to be considered and as I say, Brendan Rodgers knows what he’s got from him as he’s been working with him for a few months.”
Rodgers has made no secret of his desire to bring Adam Idah to Celtic on a permanent basis. And the fact the Celtic board seem set to back their manager to get him bodes well for the future.
Chris Sutton also believes that it could take as much as £10m to get the Republic of Ireland international but with managerial changes happening at the Championship club, it could prove difficult to get a deal done at this particular time.
Time will tell but this is a story we will certainly be keeping a close eye on if, and when, developments happen.
