Simon Jordan delivers a stark dose of reality to Rangers fans on the gap to Celtic after League Cup defeat

Rangers’ performance in the League Cup final seems to have opened up the conversation again about the gap between the Ibrox club and Celtic.

Despite Celtic winning the League Cup, it seems that Rangers’ performance has convinced some pundits and a portion of the Ibrox support that, somehow, the gap on and off the park to the Parkhead club has, somehow, shrunk.

Ally McCoist is convinced the gap to Celtic isn’t as big despite Rangers losing yet another Glasgow Derby match.

Even before the two clubs met on Sunday, Barry Ferguson deluded himself into thinking the gap between Celtic and Rangers was closing as he claimed his old team was ‘back’ after drawing with Spurs in the Europa League.

It’s quite bizarre the narrative that is being built in the media but Rangers’ performance is not fooling talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan.

Simon Jordan’s brutal Rangers truth after losing to Celtic again

Jordan was asked by Jim White if Rangers would need to wait till Brendan Rodgers left Celtic to become dominant in Scotland again and the former Crystal Palace owner didn’t hold back with some home truths for the Ibrox support.

Jordan told talkSPORT, “Possibly, I mean, ultimately, there’s a big disparity between the finances of the two clubs.

“I mean, we’ve spoken about this Martin [O’Neill] has spoken about this, Graeme Souness has spoken about it.

“Individual games and being close individual games, when you get to the end of the season and Celtic win the league again, the gap between the two sides is the gap, i.e Rangers are not able to overcome Celtic however well they played, however much of the game they might have had.

“And if you look at the possession stats, you look at the shots on goal, Rangers edged all of those, yet Celtic were the ones that they were trying to pull back and trying to peg back into the game.”

We’ll forgive Jordan’s faux pas in Rangers out possessing Celtic in the cup final, but everything he said on the game was absolutely spot on.

Simon Jordan’s grim Rangers prediction sounds good for Celtic fans

It’s going to take more than one decent performance to convince Jordan that the gap has closed as he shares a hard truth about what it is going to take for Rangers to topple Celtic.

“So I think,” continued Jordan, “an individual performance in a cup final where the players should turn up, should be able to compete, doesn’t give you a blueprint for how Rangers are going to overcome Celtic.

“It’s going to be a longer process, more money needs to be injected in the club, better management, better recruitment of players might give them an opportunity, irrespective of whether Brendan Rodgers is in the dugout or not.”

Unfortunately for Rangers, they have none of those prerequisites that Jordan listed to take over Celtic’s mantle.

They have no sizeable revenue streams or a good recruitment policy so it seems like Celtic’s place as the dominant team in Scottish football is very safe for now and in the immediate future.
