Simon Jordan’s utterly bizarre attack on Brendan Rodgers as he sides with Steven Gerrard

talkSPORT mouthpiece Simon Jordan has delivered a strange attack on Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Jordan was speaking on the radio show with co-host Jim White, who brought up the subject of Steven Gerrard’s talks to return as Rangers manager.

It appears Celtic’s arch-rivals are keen to land Gerrard, who is currently out of work after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq earlier this year.

Gerrard left Rangers in 2021 to manage Aston Villa, and White thinks it’s an ‘interesting dynamic’ that both Glasgow giants could have bosses who turned their backs on the clubs before returning.

Jordan defended Gerrard’s situation because he will return to Rangers with a different set of owners in charge, and therefore hasn’t betrayed their trust in the past.

Jordan can ‘tolerate’ Gerrard more than Rodgers

But the former Crystal Palace owner went on to hammer Rodgers, claiming his scenario at Celtic is ‘slightly different’.

Jordan blasted Rodgers for several things before siding more with Gerrard, saying: “The Celtic thing is slightly different because Brendan walked out mid-season and is up to his old tricks again now, which is when he doesn’t get what he wants from his team and isn’t performing at the level, it’s everybody else’s fault but his.

“And then he starts to talk in different languages and starts to distance himself from certain people. Can’t have a relationship with his chief executive. Whatever he can’t do, Brendan, he will find a reason why it’s not his fault.

“So I’m less tolerant of Brendan than I might be of Steven Gerrard.”

Jordan’s Rodgers and Gerrard comments make no sense

When Rodgers and Gerrard left Celtic and Rangers in 2019 and 2021 respectively for Premier League clubs down south, their motivations were the same and both were during the season.

Rodgers wanted another crack at managing a top-flight English side more than to complete a historic Treble Treble at Celtic.

He wished to manage in a better league than the Scottish Premiership and was offered a much greater salary.

That’s no different to Gerrard’s switch to Aston Villa, which Jordan claims is different. Gerrard had the ambition of managing in the Premier League for the first time.

Again, Villa will have offered him more money than Rangers and Gerrard saw it as an opportunity to elevate his own career – just like how Rodgers saw it.

It also isn’t wrong to say that both Rodgers and Gerrard left because they were not backed enough in the transfer market, again similar situations.

To suggest one was different to the other is ludicrous.
