Sky Sports seem to have taken a leaf out of one of their broadcasting rivals’ books as they announced a special Friday preview of this weekend’s big derby at Celtic Park.
Earlier this month, BT Sport produced a mammoth nine hour programme featuring the Betfred Cup final. They started coverage at 9am ahead of the 3pm kick-off and built up to the big match with various preview shows and chatter.
Sky aren’t providing nearly the same level of coverage for Sunday’s match, but they have announced that they will air a “special preview show” on Friday evening.

The broadcaster’s Scottish page revealed that they would show the preview on Sky Sports News at 5:30pm on Friday evening. It’s unclear just how long they will focus on the big game, but the feature will include interviews from both Neil Lennon and Steven Gerrard.
Celtic league matches will only be on Sky next season
While the news may not be seen as completely groundbreaking for a lot of Celtic fans, it is refreshing to see the broadcasters paying a little more attention to our game.
There is so much to be talked about ahead of Sunday’s clash, and any additional coverage like Friday’s show should be applauded.
Sky will take over the exclusive rights of the Premiership from next season onwards and it will be very interesting to see if they try and up their game. There is no doubting that BT’s coverage is far better, with the likes of Chris Sutton and Ally McCoist often proving to be very good value.
Sky could improve things overnight by acquiring those two to anchor their coverage next season, while binning the less popular pairing of Kris Boyd and Kris Commons.
But for now it seems that we will just have to settle for a little bit more chat ahead of the game. Progress is progress after all.
