Sky Sports have announced that Celtic’s upcoming match away to St Johnstone will be played at 8:15pm on Friday 2nd October, with the fixture due be aired live by the broadcaster.

However, it’s a pretty curious decision to announce right now considering that Celtic are due to be competing in the UEFA Europa League playoff round the night prior on Thursday 1st October.

That’s the date that UEFA have written into the calendar for the one-legged ties to take place and the Bhoys will be massive favourites to make it to that stage, facing either FC Riga or Tre Fiori in the third qualifying round.

It could be the case that Celtic plan to take part in the play-off on Tuesday 29th September, should they progress.

However, that would be a tight turnaround from the previous round which is due to go ahead on 24th September.

The SPFL had already scheduled round 10 of the Scottish Premiership fixtures for the Friday because of Scotland’s involvement in a crucial international play-off against Israel on October 6th.

Either way, something will have to give for Celtic.

It all comes after the exclusive SPFL rights holders failed to schedule any matches for television over the weekend, as well as tonight’s match away to St Mirren.

Is Scottish football less of a priority for Sky Sports now that the English action has returned?

You can likely draw your own conclusions from that, though this clash with the Europa League appears to be coming from the league’s side.

Hopefully the St Johnstone match will be aired in some capacity if it does have to be moved again. My wallet is suffering from all these pay-per-view fixtures!
