A Sky Sports spokesperson has responded to the controversy surrounding Kris Boyd and his comments about ‘testing the facemask’ of Celtic captain Callum McGregor.
Boyd made the crass comments in the wake of McGregor’s return to the Celtic midfield for 3-0 demolition of the former striker’s beloved Rangers.
Celtic even released a short statement on social media about it all, with McGregor also referencing the comments in a press conference.

Now Sky Sports have weighed in, with a spokesperson telling The Herald: “We are aware of Kris Boyd’s comments made in his column in the Scottish Sun, which he has since clarified and about which he has reached out to Celtic captain Callum McGregor privately.
“Even though these comments were not made on Sky Sports, Kris has been reminded about the language and context he uses in articulating and telling a story.”
I suppose ‘telling a story’ is one way of putting it. I’m sure Celtic supporters would have many other ways to describe the comments.
Ultimately this needs put to bed now. McGregor has accepted Boyd’s private apology, he wants to focus on football. We can respect that, even if we don’t respect Boyd.
Some fans may be disappointed Sky Sports aren’t taking a sterner view of the comments but they were always going to back their man, especially when the comments weren’t made on their platform.
Personally, I think Sky should be aiming for a higher standard when it comes to their punditry, but that might be asking for too much when they can’t even seem to properly cover enough games.
