Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph disclosed on Twitter that a possible ‘stumbling block’ preventing Celtic from signing Charlton’s Alfie Doughty has been ‘put on hold’ and that the League One side expect the Hoops to make another bid for the player.

Charlton are currently in the middle of a potential takeover. However, the Court of Appeal blocked the sale of shares and Charlton can operate as a normal club until November as a result.

The Hoops certainly seem very keen to sign Doughty. The Scottish Sun reported this week that the club are set to make a third bid for the player, an offer of around £800,000.

Need to sign left-sided player is a pressing one

So far as yet, no third bid has been made. However, the need for Celtic to sign a left-sided player is a pressing one. With the exit of Boli Bolingoli, the Hoops need a player who can challenge Greg Taylor for the role of left-back in the squad.

It seems like Doughty is the player that has been identified by Neil Lennon and Nick Hammond. However, Charlton seem desperate to keep the player. That will be why they have already turned down two bids for the player, and it would be no shock if the proposed third was kicked into touch.

Bid of £1m could be enough?

Perhaps it will take a bid of around £1m before the League One club are willing to do business. Still, as Joseph points out, the fact that the takeover bid has been put on hold could make the Addicks more willing to do business.

Celtic’s transfer moves this close season have probably been better than anyone could have expected. The club look to have added some real quality additions to the side. The latest being Shane Duffy, who is the kind of first-team signing the Hoops have been making all summer.

Still, to complete what will have been an excellent window, Celtic need to add a left-back. Alfie Doughty is apparently the player that the Hoops want. Hopefully the third bid will be enough to get the deal done.

In other news, James Forrest has discussed possibly playing against his brother this weekend.
