Sky Sports shown up after screening 0-0 borefest instead of Celtic Pittodrie thriller

Sky Sports had the opportunity to screen last night’s thriller at Pittodrie between Aberdeen and Celtic.

Instead, they decided to screen Preston North End vs Huddersfield in the English Championship. A game between 2 teams nowhere near title-contention in England’s second tier.

The Hoops and the Dons produced an absolute rollercoaster of a night as Ange Postecoglou’s side won out 3-2. It was riveting, packed with emotion and atmosphere, and a ultimately a big night in the title race once again.

Meanwhile, Sky subscribers were left watching a 0-0 borefest between Preston and Huddersfield. A match that took 43 minutes for a team to actually have a shot on target.

Celtic-supporting Sky subscribers who have already forked out for the broadcaster because of their exclusive Premiership coverage, have had to fork out an extra £70+ to watch some of their team’s biggest away fixtures this season.

Snubbing last night’s Aberdeen fixture was hardly a first for Sky this term. We’ve also missed out on games at the likes of Easter Road, Fir Park, and New St Mirren Park respectively.

Sky Sports make broadcasting howler by snubbing Celtic fixture

You could understand if Celtic were away to team in the bottom rungs of the Premiership and Sky decided to snub for a high-profile Championship clash. A Hoops win would’ve felt more like a formality and wouldn’t have the same appeal as some of our other games.

However, Aberdeen vs Celtic remains one of the most exciting fixtures in our Premiership card. It was always going to be a cracker one way or another, as these games so often are. It’s guaranteed to deliver goals, something Sky viewers didn’t manage to receive last night.

Sky Sports have more than one footballing channel too. They have “Main Event” and “Football” subcategories when it comes to their broadcast channels. Why couldn’t Celtic have been put in one of those whilst Preston vs Huddersfield was put in the other? It makes more sense instead of having the same thing on both.

It’s not even as if Sky decided to screen Rangers vs Hibs or another Scottish fixture instead. They totally blanked what looked like one of the most competitive and intriguing midweek fixture cards we have this season.

Sure, Sky need to pick their games as they only have access to so many. But how on earth they can choose high profile games such as Aberdeen vs Celtic and Hibernian vs Celtic to miss out on is incredible.

Last night they were shown up badly. Don’t expect it to make any sort of difference with regards to their approach to our game though.
