There’s again a clamouring from some Celtic fans to re-sign defender Filip Benkovic, as the recruitment team at Celtic Park navigate the final week of the January transfer window.

The club have already announced Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro as recruits to Neil Lennon’s squad but with a lack of depth in the centre of defence, it’s seen as a priority position for some supporters before deadline day.

The Daily Record have reported this afternoon that if the Hoops attempt to bring the Leicester City man back to Glasgow they’ll likely face competition from several Championship clubs.

As we discussed earlier today, Middlesbrough are seen as the front runners if the Foxes can secure a centre-back replacement over the next few days.

Lennon was pretty vague about any interest when asked about the player over the weekend.

However, it hasn’t stopped some fans dreaming over the last 48 hours about a potential move for the 6ft 4in Croatian.

Last season he showed excellent potential in Brendan Rodgers’ team, featuring in important matches such as the Scottish League Cup final.

Although injury halted his progress, he could be a viable option to add some competition and cover to the defensive line.

Lennon has shown a willingness to play a back-three at times recently, such as against Kilmarnock, and with just three recognised centre-backs, we need more.

These fans are convinced that Benkovic is the man to go for, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
